What We Do
Since 2016, we have led an effort to provide nourishing meals to men, women, and children in need in the Charlotte area.
Our Mission
Make a measurable difference in the fight against hunger by arming food service providers with the tools and information they need to take good, pre-consumer foods that are normally thrown away and create and distribute bulk meals or stew components for soup kitchens and pantries.
“Thanks to our partnership with Stew, we redirected resources we would normally spend for food directly to services that help us move men and women to more productive lifestyles.”
— Colin Pinkney, Executive Director The Harvest Center of Charlotte
“These donations have helped tremendously especially during COVID, as our staff has been stretched and we've been operating with very limited volunteers.”
— Randall Hitt, Vice President, Engagement A Roof Above
“Your food donations have not only improved the quality of our meals but have helped us offset rising food prices enabling more resources for our programs and services focused on ending a person’s homelessness.”
— Dale Mullennix, Former Executive Director Urban Ministry Center
What We’ve Achieved So Far
From March 2020 to May 2022, we collected and donated 1,524 bags of frozen food (totaling 31,810 lbs) from the CRVA/Charlotte Convention Center alone (1 lb. equates to 1 meal/person)
Through Dr. Ben Chapman’s food rescue method, restaurants and catering companies are able to upcycle their food that has not been cross-contaminated, diverting it from landfills and combustion facilities
Before COVID, the different participants involved rescued and donated approximately 60,000 lbs of food to those in need in the Greater Charlotte area
This program’s food donations contribute to food kitchens, such as A Roof Above, that feed 250 people every day. Our goal is to help their kitchen reach even higher goals.
